Feedback From Students
As a full time faculty member one receives quite a bit of feedback from students on a regular basis. Some stand out more than others and can be recognized as proof of success toward the goals we have as educators...

"Professor O'Toole,
I just wanted to say thank you for the great compliment on my project. The artwork I created from clip art I found on the web and than altered with filters in Adobe Photoshop to give the appearance of it might appear in the animation flash videos and also the overall look of the site. I reworked several areas until I got the uniform look I was after for this project. I am going to continue to work on my project for a portfolio piece. I have a possible job offer from my art work alone before this project. I was unsure what to send as an example of my work. Now after this class and your comments I believe I have found my first major portfolio piece.
Thank you so much for all of your help. I will keep you updated on how things go with the project. I am signed up for a dreamweaver short course starting this week. I plan on taking the project and creating the site as you recommended. I also will begin to develop the flash animations that will teach how to (create) each (product).
Sincerely,
Jeff Langell"
Feedback To Students
Feedback to students (Examples) - These are examples of the types of feedback I like to use in the classroom. I am working on experimenting with augmenting technologies to continually improve my teaching ability, and the abilities of the students to understand the materials being covered in the course. With each student, with each assignment or project they are working on, I try to give them time and detailed feedback catered to their need with each specific situation both in the discussion forums, where I continually encourage open discussion and in the gradebook, where attention to detail is so important. A combined effort in these two central areas of the classroom constitutes a nurturing educational environment.
Competent student work (zip 6.84 MB) - These are samples of student work from my various classes where the student showed strong competencies throughout the term. Often times these students require lower levels of direct feedback and turn in professional level, creative, intuitive projects. They are not shown any less attention by me in these cases, but are allowed to experiment more, and follow through with the more advanced communicative ideas they bring to the classroom.
Struggling student work - (coming soon - for now, please view "Feedback" above, there is a struggling student example with work links included in the dialog) These are generally the students who have less experience than the competent category. They may have less technical and / or professional experience which they can apply to understanding and applying concepts and skills covered in the classroom. These students are required, as all students are, to fulfill all of the requirements of the course, however, they may require more contact with the instructor to help them succeed in the classroom, and achieve a passing grade. These are students who show genuine effort and concern for learning the materials being taught, but, for whatever reason it may be, are falling behind to some degree.
